About Kristin

Hi! My name is Kristin and I would love to help tutor your special needs child to grow, learn and excel. Whether it be with schoolwork, behavior, communication, socialization, chores, job coaching/supervising or learning to live on their own, I can help. I have exceled in helping others because of my creativity, patience and understanding, adapting to others needs and their communication preferences and my love for helping others succeed.

I have worked at Valley View Elementary (Texas) where I assisted kids in the special education department. I worked with the kids in the classroom as well as one on one creating behavior strategies and altering their studies to their interests and how they learn the best. I created individualized plans for each child.

I also worked at Mental Health and Mental Retardation where I helped teenagers and adults with interviewing skills, work skills, job placement, and worked on site along with them modifying their job duties to how they respond the best. Also while at MHMR, I created and managed a drop in center where I created monthly calendars that included activities, games, outings and education classes. Not only did I create the calendar, I was also 100% involved in each one.

On the side I have tutored several kiddos who need that extra attention and have modified their studies to their learning behavior. I am about positive reinforcement and have created sticker charts, drawn/laminated cartoon characters that earn pieces (thanks velcro!), given tokens and more. I also learn how each child best communicates whether it be pictures, cartooning, narratives, seeing everything step by step, etc. Each child is different, therefore I learn what works best for them. In addition, I figure out their stressors which helps identify their rumbling stage and what they need to prevent entering the rage stage. However, if they do enter the rage stage, I am educated in knowing how to handle the situation.

I will provide reports on the progress your child is making, and share my assessments of what strategies I have learned from data I have collected in regards to how your child responds the best. The best recipe for success is for us to work as a team :)

I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge.
